Neuropsychologist on the Upper West Side
When school feels hard for your child, and nothing seems to stick—lost assignments, uneven test scores, homework that takes all night—it can leave you burnt out, exhausted, and wondering if something important is being missed.
When this pattern continues for years despite parent and child efforts, it may signal that something else is going on.
A pediatric neuropsychological evaluation examines the underlying factors that influence your child’s learning and social and emotional functioning, including attention, memory, language, processing speed, and executive skills such as planning and organization.
Our goal is simple and practical: to uncover the reasons behind your child’s struggles and provide practical recommendations to help them thrive at home and at school.
Testing is completed in person on the Upper West Side near Central Park. Parent intake and feedback conversations can happen over secure telehealth, so you don’t have to juggle as much time away from work or school.
When a Neuropsychologist Can Help
Families often come to us for neuropsych testing for children when they’ve tried therapy, tutoring, or behavior charts and still feel stuck, or when the school is requesting an evaluation. You may see a bright child who seems to underperform, loses track of multi-step directions, or avoids writing and reading tasks they “should” be able to do.
These challenges may be related to attention, memory, or organizational skills. Especially if these difficulties have persisted despite your best efforts, they may indicate an underlying learning difference.
Other children may have difficulty making friends or being flexible, possible indicators of a developmental difference like autism. A structured evaluation helps you stop guessing and start planning, giving you insight into your child’s functioning and what supports they need to thrive.
Many children feel a sense of relief when they learn they aren’t doing anything “wrong”—they just need a different approach.
Neuropsychological Testing for Adults
We also provide neuropsych testing for adults. Adults come to us when they are looking for clarity and information about themselves.
This can be anything from uncovering a suspected autism diagnosis to documenting a learning difference that qualifies them for extra time on standardized tests like the LSATs or GREs. What an Evaluation Covers
A neuropsych evaluation is more than a few days of test administration. We start by listening to you, teachers (with your consent), and your child.
We then assess the areas related to learning and development, including general cognitive abilities, attention and executive functioning, memory and learning, language, social communication skills, visual-spatial skills, processing speed, fine-motor functioning, and core academic skills.
We pace the timewith clear instructions, breaks, and encouragement so your child can show us what they know. When everything is scored and integrated, you receive a readable and actionable report with clear next steps that make sense.
ADHD Testing & Support
Attention challenges can look like unfinished work, “careless” errors, fidgeting, or zoning out—often all in the same week, both at home and at school. We provide ADHD testing & therapy for kids to help them cope better and address challenges.
Our ADHD evaluations use multiple sources of data (home, school, and testing) and screen for other factors that can look similar, including anxiety, learning differences, or sleep issues.
We take great care to evaluate your child thoroughly and holistically before forming diagnostic impressions. Many families combine testing with skills-based follow-up, including routines, planner systems, task design, and reward plans that are realistic for a busy NYC household.
If therapy will help day-to-day coping, our child psychologist team provides CBT-based support to help your child manage emotions, attention, and organizational challenges.
Collaboration With Schools & Physicians
Good recommendations only matter if they are put into use. With your consent, we coordinate with teachers, learning specialists, pediatricians, and psychiatrists to ensure that accommodations and strategies are implemented where your child needs them.
We’re happy to attend school meetings, provide summary letters, and consult as your child’s needs evolve throughout the year.
