Frustration

October 24, 2018 by Dr. Gordon

My website has been malfunctioning for several days now. It’s partly my fault, as I tried to change the name from TamarGordonPsychology.com to GordonTherapyGroup.com, hoping to more accurately reflect how many people work with me.  It’s partly the fault of the many, many tech support people I’ve spoken with who can’t seem to sort out something I was told would take 20 minutes to complete.  Either way, I am left with a bag full of frustration and have been reflecting on the coping process.

Day one:  disbelief, tense shoulders, many hours on the phone with tech support – which did at least result in functioning email.

Day two: anger, irritation, some avoidance of dealing with it. How can this be happening? Why did I start this crazy process?!

Day three:– more calm, the beginnings of acceptance. This is broken, and fixing it may take a while.

Day four:  the weekend, a day of rest.

Day five:  some wry humor as I talk to “Chris” at host-monster for, I think, the third time. Could be a different Chris than Friday – no real way to know.  I’m writing this while he’s on speakerphone working on the back end of WordPress.

What’s your coping process? How do you respond to frustration? Do you get to humor faster than I do? Sometimes I find myself making things worse, yelling at the help-desk person, other times I let thing go and allow those who can help to do their helping while I mentally detach, to return at a calmer point to the fixing process.

No question humor and calm have been the better way to go.  I’m less stressed, they’re less stressed, and I get more attention from my helpers….if I get to post this blog, you’ll know  it worked!
